Lotus Thai

Lotus Thai Restaurant
2803 Oak Valley (Near Target)
Inconspicuous on the outside (tucked into a mall storefront near Target), Lotus Thai Restaurant is surprisingly elegant inside with dark paneling, carpeting, simple colorful art on the walls. The taped music is Ann Murray softly singing old favorites. I think incongruous for an Asian restaurant, Lorri says—how international. We [...]

Pacific Rim

Pacific Rim offers Asian fusion food at 114 W Liberty. As I’ve stated earlier, adding the word Fusion to your title increases prices by at least 50%. Adding the word Teriyaki, Joint, or Chinese can lower prices significantly.
The food here was unique and tasty, and the decor mixed the ambience of Tokyo and Ann Arbor.
Service [...]

Kai Garden

Kai Garden is next to my office so I end up there on occassion. It’s cheap for Main Street, has large portions, and is quick.
They also have a fish tank. For some reason I have thoughts of them reaching in the fish tank and picking out something to cook. Just thoughts though.

Shalimar

Shalimar: Indian restaurant, 307 S Main St
I ate at Shalimar with my parents during the Ann Arbor art fair. We split 2 lunch specials between the 3 of us, and it was plenty. Great food, great service, and a nice assortment of different dishes. They don’t have a lunch buffet, but the lunch specials make [...]

Siam Cuisine

Siam Cuisine is located in a charming house in KerryTown. I had noodles in peanut sauce (can’t remember the name) and it tasted great. One notable thing during the meal is the teenage girl next to me complaining to her mother. For some reason, when teenagers enter my presence, they have the desire to whine [...]

Champion House

I love Champion House. It’s a great place to go for entertainment. The chef cooks on a grill at the table and does a little show. They call it Hibachi. A few of the highlights included a volcano created from an onion,  shrimp flipping, and some spatula tricks. I wanted to have him fling the [...]

Mongolian Barbeque

Mongolian BBQ is a chain, and their website says it’s the first chain in Mongolia. I can’t imagine try to run a hygenic restaurant in Mongolia.
Anyway, Mongolian BBQ is another restaurant that people love for the process: take a bowl of food, add ingredients, and have it cooked. Repeat as needed. It’s probably more popular [...]

Middle Kingdom

The street sign for Middle Kingdom read “Best Chinese Food.” I was convinced, so I walked in for an 11:05am lunch. I ate General Tso’s chicken. I onced asked a waitress who General Tso was and received an intense 5 minute lecture. I didn’t make that mistake this time.
Middle Kingdom has been here since 1982. [...]

Mahek

Mahek serves up a nice Indian buffet with variety and friendly service. The food was fresh even though I came a bit later than the typical diner. With a drink, the price came to about $10, which I think is fair.
The decor is a bit bland (when I was taking a picture a random guy [...]
